An insightful day for Bluecoat Academy students at Serif
We were delighted to welcome a number of students from Nottingham’s Bluecoat Academy to the Serif headquarters recently. The students are studying for the 14-19 IT Diploma and visited Serif as part of their work on Unit 2 – Exploring Organisations. The class were looking at the culture and structure of Serif as a company and finding out how we use technology to achieve our business objectives.
Mr Li, Deputy Director of Learning for Maths & ICT at Bluecoat Academy accompanied the students and said “the kids found it really useful to see the different teams within Serif and how they interact with each other on an ongoing basis. They really enjoyed learning about the different systems in use within the sales team, in particular how you ensure that call waiting time is minimised and how the team are prepared for each call by utilising previously recorded history of each client.”
A number of the students are interested in software development and benefitted from spending some time with our software engineering department and gaining a greater understanding of what it would be like to be part of the team.
What was great news, was that many of these students said that after spending the day with us they’d be very happy to work at Serif in the future. A recent report from the Education and Employers Taskforce and Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, says “work experience makes a big difference to the career paths of young people”.
We couldn’t agree more at Serif and we’re delighted to offer students the chance to visit us at our headquarters to gain a valuable insight into how the different functions within a business work together and to offer a taste of what it could be like to follow these career paths.
We look forward to welcoming further students through our doors in the future!
