Inspiring day for local authorities at Serif HQ
Local authority advisors from throughout the country visited us here at Serif last week for a dedicated training day, and it was great to see the ICT consultants gain a ‘hands-on’ experience of the latest Serif titles.
Our aim with training days such as this is to clearly demonstrate how Serif’s Design Suite not only helps deliver ICT, but how it can also enhance learning and support teaching across the entire curriculum. What’s more, we’re proud to be able to reveal how students using the software are able to develop skills which prepare them for the workplace – a vital element of today’s education system.
The visiting consultants were quick to get stuck in to a variety of practical activities. DrawPlus X5 was explored with logo design, stopframe and keyframe Flash animations. With WebPlus X5 they created a multimedia website, whilst MoviePlus X6 was used to create a 45 second layered video – not bad for a day’s work!
It wasn’t only the software that we shared with our visitors, we also introduced to them to the variety of new teacher resources we have online.
Although all the visiting consultants and advisors were already familiar with Serif software many of them hadn’t had the opportunity to explore the latest versions. John Simpson, a Secondary ICT Consultant from the Barnet area seemed to gain a great deal from the day, saying; “I wanted to see what the latest developments were in each of the software packages. Serif has a great reputation for producing excellent software which can compete with and sometimes be easier to use than more expensive software available. What I saw on the day demonstrated that Serif still has some of the best value for money software available. Full marks to the software developers for continuing to produce fantastic software at an affordable price.”
Adele Hull, Primary ICT Advisor, Leicester City Council thanked us for the day “It was very enjoyable. It is good to have some reasonably priced software to show to primary schools, particularly for use by upper KS2 pupils. Serif software gives pupils the opportunities and flexibility to be extremely creative.”
A self-confessed IT enthusiast, Bob Harding, ICT Consultant, Learn 21, Wiltshire said, “There was a lot packed into the day and I went away inspired. I have used Serif software for many years but always knew there was so much more; this day really opened my eyes to the possibilities. The course has taken my understanding and appreciation of the software to a whole new level. For us folk who love IT there doesn’t need to be a reason, but for the average person/pupil I need to be able to answer the question “Why do they need lessons with Serif software” (it’s a bit like why do art or history). The big question for me is always ‘why’, and I’ll be looking closer at the teacher resources to find the excellent examples there and develop my own thinking along these lines.”
We’ll be holding another dedicated LA training day in September. For further information or details on how you can get involved, please contact us.
